You ever have those moments, when life is comin’ at ya way too fast, you feel like you might could benefit from breathing into a paper bag? You know, like how doctors recommend for folks who feel like they might be fixin’ to have a panic attack…
Well I am having these feelings right now.
To be perfectly honest, I realize I am a pansy for even admitting why…
Am I suffering from battlefield flashbacks? No. But I earnestly pray for those that do. God, and the Angels he appoints, are the only ones who can truly help these souls put aside their angst.
Did I just get rescued from a hung elevator? No, but I was stuck in one once, in a high-rise in downtown Knoxville, just six days after 9-11. Was I ready to claw the doors open that day and somehow magically rappel down the chute, to avoid burning to death, like what I saw for days on end on the TV that year of 2001? Yep. But fortunately, the gal in the elevator next to mine called out to me in the complete darkness, assuring me that help was on the way, that this was NOT an act of terrorism, but simply a power shortage that shut everything down momentarily. She had a cell phone, and was able to make contact with her office on yet an even higher floor. Whew, saved by the bell on that one.
So no, my butterfly belly syndrome and head spinning at the moment arise from the fact that I just submitted my questionnaire to my adopted little brother, Ty Harris, of Harris Design Concepts, to be his newest client in the world of website building. Let me just say this right here, right now –technology is NOT my forte. Posting on social media gives me the heebie-jeebies, and my skin crawls at the mere thought of trying to figure something out that only our top CyberSec guys from the 290 JCSS (shout-out to my MacDill AFB peeps!) could handle.
I like words, and numbers (so long as there are no letters in those numbers – algebra was never my friend), and I love people! That’s my jam! Working in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, creating useful documents for my clients – that is a thing of beauty to me. But getting to know my clients, learning how to best help them, so they can go be their best selves – now THAT is the grandest!
I do realize how silly my sheer simplicity sounds to a great many of you – No worries, I shan’t fault you for your thoughts or opinions! But just so you understand, this whole website building is a big deal to me! Like, HUGE! I’ve been wanting to try and put all this together for years now, and offer you fine folks a collaboration of my two best sides: clerical and creative. And even as I write this message now, I know it will take weeks, even months, for www.HappyCarly.com to see the light of day. But ya know what? That’s okay. Baby steps.
I am so excited to have you all on this adventure with me! So please, peruse these pages, let some happy vibes sink in… Offer up your suggestions, your thoughts, your questions… Be inspired by what you find here, and pass it along to folks you know who might could use a little “extra something” to get their day going. And I would be honored if you make a purchase! ‘Cause that would feel like the real icing on the cake!
True talk – life is short. It has begun to feel even shorter for me the past several months. Hittin’ 50 kinda really took my breath away, don’t ya know? But that’s okay. It shone some light on some pretty dark corners, corners adorned with cobwebs and dust-bunnies. Can we please get a cleaner in here? And once I saw what I didn’t like to see (at ALL!), it propelled me to do what I should have done years ago. Put my fears aside, and just go for it. I am done being my biggest hurdle!
At the end of the day, we all have our “coulda shoulda woulda” thoughts, but isn’t that why they call it “Hindsight 20/20?” All we can do, is do better tomorrow. And then repeat. So instead of beatin’ myself up for what I haven’t done yet, I need to grab tomorrow by the horns and do more, be more, trust more… I need to just go with my gut – the one God gave me – and go show this world just who I am and what I’m made of!
Like from one of my favorite sayings, gifted me by our former unit commander, Colonel Virgil, “Close your eyes… and leap!”
Live Happy,
Carly 😊
